Yes, you really can think yourself happy! Ok, let's first of all clarify that what we're talking about here is feeling a case of the blues, feeling a bit sad, or having a down day. We're not talking about clinical depression. That said, even clinical depression starts somewhere, and if it starts with an emotional jolt, yes there is a chance that the power of positive thought can help prevent it becoming a full blown bout of depression.
If you don't believe in positive thought, think about the positive impact of an up-lifting song. Or indeed, the reverse, the effect of hearing a sad song, or a song that reminds you of a particular period in your life.
So if music (that comes from someone else's mind) can do it, imagine what your own mind can do. This little addition to our blog is very short and pretty simple. Next time you feel a little down, simply tell yourself that you don't want to feel that way anymore. Think about happy things. Really think about them, make them vivid in your mind. Remember happy occasions and replay them in your mind. Do it over and over. Sing a happy song out loud. If you think happy thoughts, and really act happy, you really can trick your mind into thinking that you are happy.
Don't take my word for it, try it. We'd love to hear how you get on!
