If you are or ever have been chronically overweight, the chances are you tried every new diet on the market. Isn't there something wrong with that sentence? If they worked, why would you need to try every diet going?
The truth is that most overweight people know exactly why they're overweight: they eat too much, possibly the wrong foods, and don't exercise enough. If only we were like cars and had a finite fuel tank that once full could take no more...
And so it goes that people suffering from being overweight struggle
to get rid of the extra pounds. But the big problem is that most
people want instant gratification, rapid weight loss, and the body of a
supermodel within weeks of starting their diet. Why should that
possibly work? If it takes years to become overweight, why would it be
reasonable to assume that you can lose it all in a matter of weeks?
And that's the biggest reason why diets fail. They promise the undeliverable. They promise a perfect body, often in a peculiarly short period of time. And that's unfair. If you suffer from chronic obesity, you're probably very conscious of it, and likely to want to try anything. The promoters of these diets prey on people who are already vulnerable and often desperate. Of course it sounds fantastic to find a diet that doesn't deny you what you want, but still makes you lose 50lbs. But how many times do we need to hear "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!" before we finally believe it?
But diets don't fail because they make false promises. With most diets of you follow them religiously you will indeed lose weight. They fail because almost without exception, diets deprive us of the things we love. We become overweight because we eat too much, we eat the wrong things, and we don't exercise enough. Most people can handle the deprivation for a period, but then we give in. We binge. And then we feel guilty. The guilt makes us feel depressed, and that in tuen makes us feel bad about ourselves. Altogether a horrible situation.
And that is what really separates weight loss through hypnosis with other methods. Hypnosis re-trains us to behave differently, and react differently to different situations.
That means that people who eat out of boredom can learn how to behave differently when they're bored. People who eat when they're sad, can learn how to react to that sadness in a way that is beneficial to them and their lifestyle. In fact whatever the underlying reason for being overweight, it can be addressed via hypnosis and thus ensure more sustainable results. Furthermore, because hypnosis works with the subconscious mind, it doesn't feel as though we are making any effort at all.
Dieters gradually change the way they approach food and eating. Our weight-loss programme is designed to help clients re-learn how to approach food and eating in a way that promotes a healthy and sustainable weight programme. It does it in a way that is fun and pleasurable; it takes virtually no conscious effort from the client.
Most people who experience weight loss through hypnosis report feeling truly calm and relaxed rather than stressed and cranky, as is the case with most diets. That's because with hypnosis there is no deprivation, no starvation, and no resulting stress.
